Sexological Bodywork

Canadian Sexological Bodywork Course Structure

Students participate in six weeks of home practice sessions and group online learning before attending a ten-day residential intensive. After the intensive, Level I students are supervised for twenty-five practice sessions and Level II students complete a special project. Each student has a personal coach for the entire training. Upon completion of all requirements, Level I students will receive a Certification in Sexological Bodywork and Level II students receive a Certification in Somatic Sex Education. Graduates from this professional training can become members of The Association of Certified Sexological Bodyworkers (ACSB).

Prerequisites for Enrollment

Level I: The basic prerequisite for this training is a heartfelt commitment to support others on their journey to sexual wholeness. This training was designed to build on the experience of individuals who are already working as bodyworkers, sex educators, yoga instructors, psychotherapists, or health care providers. Students must be competent in their ability to give massage.

Level II. The prerequisite is a Certification in Sexological Bodywork.

The application process includes a Skype or telephone interview with Dr. Liam Captain Snowdon and Caffyn Jesse.

Reading and Viewing

Students must have a high-speed internet connection in order to access the group discussions, the video demonstrations, and other course materials.

Somatic Sex Education is an area of study full of new ideas. The readings and video viewings offer guidance for the embodied research projects in this training. Students are required to write and post online a short report reflecting on the learning in each research project.

Supported Learning

Each student enrolled in this training will become part of a “pod” led by a teacher or assistant teacher who supports the group through the training. Students will communicate with their pod by email and through weekly telephone conversations.

Group Online Study, Module 1

Mindful somatic practice is the core of the group online home study program. Online video demonstrations and important sexological readings provide a survey of the new field of somatic sexology, with an emphasis on erotic massage, masturbation coaching, anal pleasure, erotic yoga, scar tissue remediation and sexual health. Each student reports to the group about his or her erotic practice and learning. Students are required to read each other’s reports and comment on important insights.

A private forum at The New School of Erotic Touch facilitates the sharing of homework massage assignments, while providing a place for online discussions and communications with the teachers.

An online home-study workbook directs practice sessions, course readings and video viewing. Students should allocate between fifteen and twenty hours each week for the eight weeks of home study. Students are encouraged to divide their home schooling evenly between erotic practice sessions and study of video and texts. Many students enroll in this training weeks or months early so they can complete the homestudy over a longer period of time. Students who have not completed the basic home study requirements cannot attend the ten-day Embodiment Intensive.

Embodiment Intensive: Module 2

After eight weeks of group online learning, students and faculty come together in the flesh to practice communally in a beautiful space where they connect with each other and with the earth. The ten days of the Intensive include instruction and practice in breathwork, sensate erotic-massage focus, erotic massage, scar tissue remediation, and Orgasmic Yoga coaching. Every person touches and is touched by every other person in the training.

During the Intensive, students deepen the erotic practice begun in the home study. The following modalities are emphasized:

Conscious Breathwork

Students learn to help others expand their capacity for sexual excitement and erotic joy through breathing.

Orgasmic Yoga Coaching

Students give and receive individual coaching sessions as well as participate in and facilitate group coaching structures. The motto of Orgasmic Yoga coaching is: “Change the way you masturbate, change your life.”

Erotic Bodywork

Students learn and practice several forms of genital and anal massage. Students also learn to teach this bodywork to couples and groups. Furthermore, students learn bodywork techniques to free the body’s potential for orgasm by releasing muscular “armoring” or constriction.

Muscular, Skeletal, and Genital Anatomy

Anatomy is explored through slide show presentations before most bodywork demonstrations and group practice sessions.

Supervised Practicum: Module 3

Level I Students complete twenty-five sessions of Sexological Bodywork with individuals, couples and small groups. Students post reports on their sessions online for the instructors and classmates to read and review. Faculty will offer group supervision in monthly phone conferences.

Special Project

Level II students create a special project with original research that makes a contribution to knowledge in this field.

Certificate Award Upon completion of all requirements, level I students receive a Certificate in Sexological Bodywork. Level II students receive a Somatic Sex Education certificate. Graduates can become members of the Association of Certified Sexological Bodyworkers and/or the Canadian Somatic Sex Educators Association (SSEA).
