Sexological Bodywork

Somatic Sex Education Certificate Program--Australia

August 1—December 31, 2011

With Joseph Kramer, Ellen Heed and Lorna Hannah

Tuition: $2500 USD. $1500 if paid in full before May 1, 2011.

Enrollment: Only eight students will be accepted into this somatic sex educator training.

Prerequisite: Sexological Bodywork Certification

Purpose: This experiential training offers CSBs the opportunity to expand their coaching and teaching skills by assisting students in the Australian Sexological Bodywork Certificate Training (September 1– November 30, 2011). CSBs will profit from supervision and coaching even as they supervise and coach others.

Program Components: Coaches in the Somatic Sex Education Certificate Program will assist two or three students to deepen their experience of embodiment using breath, movement, touch, sound, intention, and conscious sexual arousal from the time of their enrollment in the (CSB) certificate training until December, 2011. Coaches will encourage mindful awareness and self-directed practice in their students using email, online forums, and weekly phone sessions. The coach-student connection will support the creation of a learning community within this training and beyond.

In addition to working with students, the coaches themselves are required to engage five of the same somatic assignments as their students and to post reports online with other student reports. All coaches must start the course with their own Orgasmic Yoga practice (Assignments One and Two) and must engage their students in Orgasmic Yoga phone coaching (Assignment Three). Coaches choose two of the other somatic practices assignments to complete.

Coaches will keep a learning journal during their Somatic Sex Education training. Parts of this journal will be shared online with others in the same training.

August-October, 2011—As the Sexological Bodywork Training Begins.

  • The Somatic Sex Education program will begin with six hours of telephone training for the coaches with Joseph Kramer and Lorna Hannah. This telephone training will include somatic coaching strategies as well as a review of the course materials in the Sexological Bodywork Training.
  • Coaches will keep a learning journal during their Somatic Sex Education training. Parts of this journal will be shared online with others in the same training.
  • There will be twice monthly phone conferences during the entire five-month training with Joseph Kramer, Lorna Hannah, Ellen Heed and other somatic sex educators.
  • There will be both required and suggested readings, podcasts and videos on somatic coaching and body-based sex education that will help coaches craft their interactions with their students. The required study of new somatic materials will take about two hours a week.

October 28–November 6, 2011—The Embodiment Intensive

  • Each coach will offer somatic teaching at the Intensive. Teaching will be based on the home study assignments and informed by somatic learning theories. You will develop this teaching in consultation with Joseph Kramer and Lorna Hannah.
  • Coaches will meet with Joseph Kramer, Ellen Heed, and Lorna Hannah on the day before the Intensive for orientation and planning.
  • Coaches will participate in daily staff planning sessions at the Intensive. These sessions will evaluate and plan the learning day by day.
  • Coaches will sometimes function as teaching assistants or witnesses during the Intensive, offering guidance and feedback to students as appropriate.
  • Coaches will sometimes participate in group learning experiences along with students.
  • Coaches will assist as needed with the logistics of the Intensive.

November-December, 2011—Towards Certification

  • Coaches will supervise and collaborate with their two/three students for six weeks after the Intensive. This will involve help with the planning and evaluation of student practice sessions.
  • Students will be in dialogue with their coaches about the assistance they are receiving during their training. In many cases, students will request specific assistance from their coaches.

A certificate in Somatic Sex Education will be awarded upon the satisfactory completion of the training requirements:

  • Coaching two or three students through their Sexological Bodywork training.
  • Completion of five experiential home study assignments.
  • Completion of required readings, viewings and listenings.
  • Participation in the initial six-hour training and the twice monthly phone calls with Joseph Kramer and Lorna Hannah.
  • At the Intensive, participation in daily planning sessions and assisting student learning whenever possible.
  • Chronicling the training in a somatic learning journal.
